Are You Going On Blog Tour?

Have you got a fantastic new book or product that’s all to do with writing? We’d love to help you promote you to the right people.

Each Month, WRA hosts a new author as they showcase their latest success and share insight into writing and the writer’s life. Want an honest, thoughtful review? Willing to participate in an interview or Q and A session? Want to offer your own post or article? Should we run a contest together? Writer’s Round-About offers many choices for promoting authors.

I would love to be able to share more from blog touring authors and we have a few empty places in our schedule. If you have a blog tour planned for the coming months, drop me an email, it might be just the thing WRA would love to help you with!

What’s in the works this August at WRA?

Wow, July just flew by didn’t it? I hope you had a fantastic month. I’m excited because, after a couple of lean months, the beginning of August has brought me a few new gigs. Others around me have found business picking up too! Is this a sign that the economy is improving, or that our marketing skills are blossoming? How is business for you?

This month we have some exciting features. The most notable being a fantastic Blog Tour with Sue William Silverman, author of “Fearless Confessions: A Writer’s Guide to Memoir“. I will share my review of her book on the 10th of August but in a few days you will have an opportunity to suggest questions for inclusion in my interview of Sue (tentatively scheduled for the 17th) and enter this months contest for a chance to win a copy of “Fearless Confessions“. Sue joins us again on the 21st with a fantastic post about using Sensory Description.

I have a few other posts lined up from me and I hope some other writer’s will consider adding contributions of their own this month. If you’re not involved in our collaborative blogging project find out how you can become a WRA writer!

With this fantastic line-up be sure to subscribe via RSS so you don’t miss a thing. Is there something you want to read about or a topic of particular interest to you at the moment? Leave your suggestions in the comments or send me an email. What would you like to see on Writer’s Round-About this month?

MaAnna Stephenson Visits WRA In July

I’m excited to announce that we are hosting a special guest, MaAnna Stephenson, author of Just the FAQs, this month. MaAnna is a talented writer who has recently launched a series of instructional eBooks that share, in simple terms, the technical aspects that often confuse writers trying to promote themselves online. Are you wondering how to begin a blog of your own, create a website, or get started with article directories? MaAnna answers these questions and more in her Just the FAQs series.

Even better is your opportunity win! Leave a comment on any of MaAnna’s blog stops for a chance to win one of two free Just the FAQs eClasses. To find out more about MaAnna’s Virtual Blog Tour including a list of her scheduled blog stops click here.

Also in July I’ll review, “Can I Change Your Mind?“, a fantastic book on the craft and art of persuasive writing by Lindsay Camp and the book I won at Writing The Cyber Highway, “Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing” by Mignon Fogarty.

What else would you like to see at WRA this month?

Have you considered collaborative blogging?

Put your hand up if you have a blog you rarely update? *raises hand* If you’re like me then guilt weighs heavily on your shoulders. You’ve got the ‘shoulds’. I SHOULD update more frequently, readers want to read, but we don’t.

I know I’m not the only one because I’m subscribed to a few blogs myself that are sporadically updated. Some of my favorite writers have fantastic blogs but, they’re busy writing the copy that pays. Time is not infinite and sometimes our personal projects get lost in the pipeline of priorities.

Have you got a blog like that? Why? Have you ever considered doing away with your blog and joining other writers in a collaborative blogging project?

Recently I started thinking about transforming Writer’s Round-About into just such a project. Fellow writer’s would be invited to post as it suits them. They would each have their own author page, a full bio, and sidebar blurb with photo and every time they post they get a link to their portfolio website. So they get the promotion of blogging without the pressure of having to update regularly.

Another advantage is the power to reach a larger audience. Writer’s Round-About already has a solid subscriber base and fairly significant traffic. In fact, the support of my existing readers is why I feel so guilty only updating once a week. What if we could bring readers new content more frequently? What if your content could reach an ever increasing readership?

What do you think? Would you be interested in a project like this? As a WRA reader would you like to see posts from a collection of talented freelance writers? As a writer would you like to put aside your solo blog, the guilt of not having a posting schedule, and the loneliness of blogging into emptiness?

And the winner is…

Ok, I’ve been putting off drawing a winner, keeping you all in suspense or just making you all grumpy at me. lol In my defense this flu has kicked me to the curb and that is not much fun. What IS fun, is finding out which of my loyal readers will find their very own copy of Writer Mama in their mailbox very soon.

And the winner is… drumroll please!

Kimberlee Ferrell

Congratulations, Kimberlee! If you drop me an email with a postal address and I’ll get the book in the mail first thing Monday.

It’s great to be able to give away prizes and I’m looking forward to giving away more in the future. What do you like best about the contests you enter online? Do you like ones that are simple, your comment equals your entry with a randomly drawn winner? Or would you like to enter contests where you are judged on the quality of your entry? What makes a contest one you want to enter?

Win Writer Mama by Christina Katz

I really love having an opportunity to share this fantastic interview with Christina Katz. I’ve been a fan of Christina’s for a long time and was fortunate enough to meet her at the Writer’s Digest Writer’s Conference in L.A. last year. She really is as lovely in person as she sounds in her books.

While I was at the conference, I picked up an extra copy of her book, Writer Mama: How to Raise a Writing Career Alongside Your Kids, and I’d love to give it away to a lucky Writer’s Round-About reader!

How do you win? It’s easy, just leave a comment here and you go into the draw. It really is as simple as that. Of course, if you tweet the contest you’ll get a second entry into the draw and if you add a comment to Christina’s interview you’ll earn a third. Entries close May 31st, 2009 so act now!

WRA Introduces Our First Reviewer Contest

Do you love to read? Would you like to win new books just for reading and reviewing the books you love? Through the month of April Writer’s Round-About is trialing a new reviewer contest. We reward you for writing about the books you’ve been reading. It’s simple to enter and you can submit as many reviews as you like for more chances to win!

From time to time author’s send me a complimentary copy of their book to review on Writer’s Round-About. One book in my current queue is Michelle Goodman’s latest book, “My So-Called Freelance Life” and you recently saw my review of George Singleton’s “Pep Talks, Warnings & Screeds“. I always look forward to reading and reviewing other authors and constantly swell my bookshelves.

It is important to be an honest reviewer. I try to include the bad with the good rather than touting nothing but praise when I review. Even so, reviews are always subjective. The elements I like might be those that irk you and a fantastic segment you’d love to read might have registered as a mere blip in my reader radar.

In the interest of sharing real reviews from a range of reviewers I’ve always invited readers to submit your own reviews as a guest poster on Writer’s Round-About. Now there is even more incentive because I have fantastic books to give away to lucky reviewing readers.
