  2. I started reading with my daughter before she could hold a book – every day, several times day. She’s also grown up in an environment where people are always reading. I make sure to explain any new words and encourage her to use them and also to play with language and make up words of her own. At the age of 7, she’s an avid reader, far ahead of her grade level, though that’s not the point. Today she said to me that if she could only pick one thing to take on a trip with her, it would be a book. :)

    • You 7 year old sounds a lot like my 10 year old. :-)

It’s amazing how avidly children will take to reading if it is an integral part of their early life. Great answer, Sharon, and thanks for getting the ball rolling with the first entry. Don’t forget to share with your friends for more chances to win.

  3. [...] Thank you again for your time, Cindy. I wish you fantastic success with this book and appreciate your contribution to encouraging our children to read. My personal experience with dyslexia (since my mother and I are both dyslexic, not just my son) has made me very aware of how important learning to read is for creating a successful future. I want that for my children. Thank you for writing a book that helps bring a love of language into our home. Related posts:50 chances to WIN a copy of Book by Book by Cindy Hudson [...]

  4. We have been reading to our children since they were in the womb. They’ve been surrounded by books of all kinds & people who love to read. We take them to the library and to book stores. We read books before seeing movies or plays that they are based on. We make it fun and interesting. The biggest thing is that they love to read, know that if they can read & want to read, they can then learn about anything they want to know. We listen to audiobooks in the car so they can hear others reading to them. My 11yo daughter always has a stack of books that she is reading and a “to read” list about a mile long. My 9yo son loves to read, especially about anything science related. He will read a book numerous times because they are like friends and he misses them.

    • It’s wonderful to hear about the love of reading your children share, Kelly. My daughter loves science topics too. She finds learning new science facts and experiments a lot of fun and reading on a range of scientific topics keeps her interested and inspired.

Thanks for supporting the contest. We’re down to the wire now and you’re numerous entries have increased your odds. :-) Good luck!
